John Butler Trio

Australian favourites, the John Butler Trio are old hands at performing at the West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots. In fact, band founder, guitarist and vocalist John Butler knows more than most about pleasing crowds in Fremantle – the APRA and ARIA-award winning musician started his career as a busker in the very same suburb. But much has changed since he released a self-recorded, solo cassette ‘Searching for Heritage’ way back in 1996. Now Butler has himself a well-known and established band, with Grant Gerathy on drums and percussion, and Byron Luiters on bass. They’ve filled airwaves across the country with hits like ‘Something’s Gotta Give’, ‘Zebra’, ‘Funky Tonight’ and ‘Close to You’. And there are plenty more to come after the trio released their sixth studio album, ‘Flesh & Blood’ in February 2014, landing three ARIA nominations in the categories of Best Blues & Roots Album, Best Video and Best Album. With nominations like that, it’s clear the John Butler Trio are definitely at the heart of Australian blues ‘n’ roots! We can’t wait for 2015 so we can welcome JBT and their banging blues and roots music back to the West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots for their fifth appearance in eleven years.
