Julia Stone rose to some pretty serious prominence as one half of an outrageously popular collaboration with her brother Angus. As a team, they won 5 ARIA awards, produced a number 1 album and were responsible for a slew of gorgeous hits like “Big Jet Plane” and “Paper Aeroplane”. The crazy thing is though, despite touring the country and the world as a duo, these two twins have still found the time to produce several successful solo albums in their own right. Julia recently gave us By The Horns, her second effort riding on her own steam. Intimate and forthright, the record marks a brand new chapter in the Stone’s life: crisp production, detailed instrumentation, and a singular vision rich with confidence. Featuring instrumentation by members of Bon Iver and The National, and including a breathtaking version of The National’s track “Bloodbuzz Ohio”, By The Horns has earmarked Stone as more than just a second half – it has thrust her into the spotlight as a solo performer in her own right. We’ll be able to witness the result of this transformation in the flesh at Blues n’ Roots this year.
