Rufus Wainwright

Always a man tied to and informed by his personal circumstances, Rufus Wainwright had a coup last year with the birth of his first child (to Leonard Cohen’s daughter Lorca, no less – what a pedigree!) Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen. This blessed event, coupled with the recent nuptials shared with Rufus’ long term boyfriend Jorn Weisbrodt informed the bold, jubilant turn taken on his latest record Out Of The Game. Produced by none other than Mark Ronson, Rufus’ seventh studio album shows a return to the baroque, classical pop that has made him a favourite with serious music lovers, and comes after the touching and dark tribute to his late and adored mother Kate McGarrigle  - 2010′s All Days Are Nights. All of these records help contribute to what is one of the most consistently fascinating and eclectic discographies in pop music today. One minute Rufus will be covering his Dad’s classic “One Man Guy”, the next he’ll be leading his band of rag tag adventurers through a striking version of cheeky favourite “Gay Messiah”. There is never any way to know what to expect from a Rufus Wainwright show, but one thing you know you’ll see is the man himself laid bare and putting his considerable talents and abilities on the line. How could you possibly miss that?
