We’ve loved bringing you this event as much as we hope you’ve enjoyed it. After 12 years of delivering WA’s premier ‘Bluesfest’ event – WCBR is moving on and forging the way into new territory, announcing it’s biggest change since its inception way back when in 2003.
Our much beloved WCBR has undergone some what of a makeover; new concepts, a new space, with a brand new name to match.
Freo’s Blues, Roots & Beyond encompasses all that was great about WCBR while growing the event and introducing some exciting new changes that we think you will love!
After our humble beginnings in Kings Park bringing Blues to the people we have decided to take our brand new festival model and make the move into Freo.
Passouts will be introduced, allowing the festival to filter out into the surrounding streets, music venues and hospitality spaces, creating a musical journey throughout the cultural centre of the old port city. Come and go as you please exploring Freo’s vibrant centre or visit one of the local venues we plan to programme with festival talent, offering a more intimate experience and space away from the main festival hub. As the name suggests, you can expect slight changes to the festival program and talent on offer, still delivering world class Blues and Root’s artists’ but also providing a solid platform for upcoming and established local and national acts.
“The City of Fremantle looks forward to the evolution of this much loved event and the new festival model that encourages stronger connections with Freo and all it has to offer by providing concert goers with pass outs” – Mayor Dr. Brad Pettitt.
The downside to all these changes is that we need time to plan, engage with the inner city and arts communities and pull everything together so we can bring you the next stage of the Blues & Roots story, delivered in the style and standard you’ve come to expect. So while it’s a year off for the Festival in 2016 rest assured we will be busy behind the scenes plotting and scheming to bring you a truly exciting and innovative festival experience with Freo’s Blues, Roots & Beyond.
See you in 2017!
